Can Drawing Save the World?

When I was young, my thoughts were simple; I always believed that drawing could change the world. As I grew older, I realized that drawing alone cannot solve society’s problems, but I still want to keep creating, even if it doesn’t bring about any real change. It was with this mindset that I created this illustration.
My work is usually the result of a logical process, but unusually, this painting began with a sudden flash of inspiration. I envisioned a hand holding a brush that resembled a palm branch, bringing light and hope through the strokes of the brush. This image had a profound impact on me, so I decided to paint it.
At first, I wanted to depict the left side as a world of light and freedom, and the right side as a world of corruption. However, if I depicted the war too realistically, it would have felt too much like a social commentary—and overly specific social commentary isn’t what this illustration is meant to address. So, I transformed the buildings I was drawing into more metaphorical (rather than contemporary) objects.
